Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival

Taylor Richards Scholarship

_

Application Deadline:  June 5, 2015

Winners Announced:  June 20, 2015

The Board of Directors for the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival (WRBF) is pleased to announce the newly created Taylor Richards Scholarship.  The scholarship honors the memory of Taylor Richards who was killed in June 2010 while serving as a Marine Lance Corporal in Afghanistan.  He epitomized the vision of the Board of Directors to establish an instructional youth camp, to be held during the annual festival, to nurture an appreciation of bluegrass in the next generation. This scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of WRBF supporters to the scholarship fund.

This competitive scholarship is available to young musicians who have made significant contributions to Taylor’s Camp—the kids’ instructional program offered during the annual Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival—and who meet additional criteria set forth in the application guidelines.  For 2015, the minimum award is $500.

High school or home school graduates who apply for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

_

  • Make a significant contribution of time to Taylor’s Camp
  • Participate as an instructor at Taylor’s Camp in the two years prior to application
  • Graduate from high school or complete home school with a 2.75 or higher GPA or evidence of the equivalent
  • Complete the scholarship application form
  • Submit three letters of recommendation (1 teacher; 1 community member; 1 bluegrass community member familiar with your contributions to bluegrass music)
_

Awardees who continue their education are eligible to reapply in ensuing years if they continue to make significant contributions to Taylor’s Camp as a volunteer or instructor and meet additional criteria.
